How Much Time Are You Losing at the Supply Counter?

The Real Cost of Driving to Pick Up Refrigerant

Every HVAC contractor in Southwest Florida knows the drill. You need R-410A for a job in Sarasota, so you drive 20 minutes to Baker Distributing or Tropic Supply, wait in line, load up, and drive back. That’s an hour of your day gone — an hour you could have spent on a billable service call. Multiply that by two or three trips a week, and you’re looking at serious lost revenue over the course of a month. And that’s before you factor in fuel, wear on your vehicle, and the frustration of rearranging your schedule around supply house hours.

Supply Houses Aren’t Built for Your Schedule

Supply houses like Baker Distributing, Tropic Supply, United Refrigeration, and Johnstone Supply serve a purpose — they carry a broad range of products and parts for HVAC professionals. But when it comes to refrigerant specifically, their convenience comes at a cost. You’re paying retail markups, working around their operating hours, and spending your most valuable asset (your time) on a task that could be handled for you. The supply house model was built for walk-in traffic. Your business was built for service calls.

There’s a Better Way

What if your refrigerant showed up at your shop automatically, every week, on a predictable schedule — without you lifting a finger? That’s exactly how American Refrigerants operates. We run weekly delivery routes across six Southwest Florida counties, bringing R-410A, R-22, R-454B, R-407C, R-404A, R-134a, and specialty gases directly to your door. No driving, no waiting, no retail markups. You focus on making money. We handle the gas.

You’re Buying from the Source — Not a Reseller

Here’s what most contractors in Southwest Florida don’t realize: American Refrigerants isn’t a distributor reselling someone else’s product. We are the source. We recover, reclaim, test, and certify refrigerant in our own EPA-certified lab right here in Bradenton. When you buy from a supply house like Baker or Tropic Supply, you’re paying for their markup on top of the wholesaler’s margin on top of the reclaimer’s cost. When you buy from us, you skip every middleman in that chain — because we are the reclaimer, the wholesaler, and the delivery driver all in one operation.

A National-Scale Operation in Your Backyard

American Refrigerants holds an HFC Allowance — a federal authorization that only a handful of companies in the country qualify for. We’re one of just 50 EPA-certified refrigerant reclaimers nationwide, with separation technology that lets us process mixed and contaminated gas that other companies turn away. Operations at this scale typically serve contractors hundreds of miles away through freight shipments. But our facility sits at 2053 58th Ave Cir E in Bradenton — right in the middle of the Southwest Florida HVAC market. That means local contractors get national-scale reclamation capability, wholesaler-direct pricing, and weekly delivery to their door. It’s an advantage that contractors in most parts of the country simply don’t have.

The Thursday Hillsborough Run

Every Thursday, our delivery truck covers the greater Tampa Bay and Hillsborough County area, making stops in Tampa, Brandon, Plant City, Riverview, and surrounding communities. If you’re an HVAC contractor or facility manager in Hillsborough County, Thursday is your day. Place your order by Wednesday afternoon and we’ll have it on the truck.

The Weekly Charlotte Route

With the recent closure of CRS in Charlotte County — bought out and shut down by A-Gas — many contractors in Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, and Englewood lost their closest local supplier. Our weekly Charlotte route fills that gap. We bring the same product availability and personal service that Charlotte County contractors have been missing, delivered directly to your shop or job site.

Manatee, Sarasota & Pinellas Coverage

Our home base is Bradenton, which means Manatee and Sarasota counties get the most frequent coverage. Pinellas County — covering St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Largo, and the beach communities — runs on a weekly schedule as well. For contractors in these three counties, delivery is as reliable as it gets. Many of our longest-standing customers are on standing weekly orders that ship automatically without them ever having to pick up the phone.

Lee County Extension

We’ve extended our delivery coverage into Lee County, serving Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, Estero, and Lehigh Acres on a weekly basis. The Southwest Florida construction and HVAC market continues to grow south, and we’re growing with it.

What Refrigerants Can We Bring to Your Door?

We stock and deliver the full range of refrigerants that Southwest Florida HVAC contractors and facility managers use every day. From the legacy R-22 that still runs thousands of residential and commercial systems to the next-generation R-454B that manufacturers are transitioning to, we carry it all — and we bring it to you.

Refrigerant Common Application Availability
R-410A Residential & commercial AC (most common) In stock — delivered weekly
R-22 (Freon) Legacy residential AC & commercial chillers In stock — delivered weekly
R-454B Next-gen residential AC (R-410A replacement) In stock — delivered weekly
R-407C Commercial AC & R-22 retrofit systems In stock — delivered weekly
R-404A Walk-in freezers, restaurant refrigeration In stock — local delivery only
R-134a Automotive AC & medium-temp chillers In stock — delivered weekly
R-11, R-123 Large centrifugal & low-pressure chillers Available — contact for details

Why R-404A Is Local Delivery Only

R-404A is used primarily in commercial refrigeration — walk-in coolers, freezers, and restaurant cold storage. Because R-404A cannot be reclaimed and must be purchased new, we sell it locally to ensure fast turnaround and reliable supply for the food service and grocery operations that depend on it. If you manage walk-in refrigeration for restaurants, grocery stores, or distribution centers in Southwest Florida, this is your product and we deliver it weekly.

Need Something Not Listed?

We carry a broader range of specialty refrigerants beyond what’s shown in the table. If you need a specific gas for a specific application — whether it’s R-123 for a centrifugal chiller or R-12 for a legacy system — call us. If we have it in stock, it goes on the next truck. If we need to source it, we’ll give you an honest timeline.

How Our Weekly Delivery Service Works

Getting refrigerant delivered to your shop or job site takes three steps. No contracts, no commitments, no complicated logistics on your end.

Step 1

Tell Us What You Need

Call us at (941) 371-0300 or fill out the delivery form on this page. Let us know the refrigerant type, quantity, and where you need it delivered. We’ll confirm availability and get you on the schedule for the next route to your area. First-time orders get a quote the same day.

Step 2

We Load The Truck

Your order goes on our next scheduled delivery run to your county. Our trucks leave from our EPA-certified facility in Bradenton, loaded with your specific order alongside deliveries for other contractors on the same route. That’s the “milk run” model — efficient, predictable, and cost-effective, which is how we deliver at no freight charge.

Step 3

We Deliver (And Pick Up)

We bring your refrigerant directly to your shop, warehouse, or active job site. And here’s the part most people don’t expect: if you have recovered or used cylinders to sell back, we pick those up on the same trip. Delivery and buyback on one stop. It’s the most efficient way to handle your refrigerant supply chain, and it means you never have to make a separate trip for either.

Supply House vs. Wholesaler-Direct Delivery: What You’re Actually Paying

On paper, driving to Baker or Tropic Supply seems free. In reality, you’re paying for it in ways that don’t show up on the receipt — and the price you’re paying on the receipt is inflated too. Supply houses are retailers. They buy from wholesalers, mark it up, and sell it to you. We are the wholesaler. Cut out the middleman and you’ll feel it on every cylinder.

The Supply House Way

The American Refrigerants Way

We Deliver What Supply Houses Can’t — At a Better Price

Beyond the convenience of delivery, American Refrigerants brings something supply houses simply don’t have: reclamation expertise and wholesaler-direct economics. We’re one of only 50 EPA-certified reclaimers in the country. That means every cylinder we deliver comes with full quality documentation — transparent handling sheets showing purity levels that meet AHRI 700 standards. We also still offer clean-and-return services (send us your recovered gas, we reclaim it and ship it back), which major competitors like A-Gas and Hudson Technologies have stopped doing entirely. Supply houses buy from wholesalers and mark it up before it ever reaches your hands. We are the wholesaler. We reclaim the gas, certify it in our own lab, and deliver it directly to you — which means every layer of markup between the source and your shop gets eliminated. It’s the difference between buying through a chain and buying from the source.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Delivery Service

Questions about how our weekly delivery routes work? Here are the ones we hear most. If yours isn’t listed, call us at (941) 371-0300.

What areas do you deliver to?

We run weekly delivery routes across six Southwest Florida counties: Manatee, Sarasota, Hillsborough, Pinellas, Charlotte, and Lee. Our home base is Bradenton, Florida, and our routes cover major HVAC markets including Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Sarasota, Port Charlotte, Fort Myers, and Cape Coral. If you’re in one of these areas, you’re on a route.

No. Deliveries on our scheduled weekly routes come at no freight charge. We operate a “milk run” model — our trucks make multiple stops along a set route each week, which keeps logistics efficient and allows us to deliver without passing freight costs on to you.

We deliver R-410A, R-22, R-454B, R-407C, R-404A, R-134a, and specialty gases like R-11 and R-123. If you need a specific refrigerant for a specific job, call us and we’ll confirm availability. If we have it in stock, it goes on the next truck.

Yes. This is one of the biggest advantages of our delivery model. When we drop off your order, we can pick up recovered, contaminated, or mixed-gas cylinders on the same trip for buyback. Delivery and buyback in one stop — no separate scheduling or shipping needed.

Call us at (941) 371-0300 or check the “Standing Order” box on the delivery form. We’ll set you up with a recurring weekly delivery of your specified refrigerant types and quantities. Your order goes on the truck automatically every week without you needing to call in. Many of our longest-standing customers operate this way.

We coordinate delivery logistics with you when you place your first order. Many customers designate a specific drop zone at their shop or warehouse where we leave product. As long as the area is accessible and secure, we can handle delivery even if you’re out on a service call.

Supply houses like Baker, Tropic Supply, and Johnstone Supply require you to drive to their location, wait in line, and transport product yourself during their business hours. They’re also retailers — they buy from wholesalers and add their own markup. American Refrigerants is the wholesaler and the reclaimer, so you’re buying direct from the source at a better price point. We deliver to your door on a predictable weekly schedule with no freight charges, and we buy back recovered refrigerant on the same trip — something no supply house offers. Less time wasted, lower cost per cylinder, and more hours available for billable work.

Call us at (941) 371-0300. We do our best to accommodate urgent needs, especially for existing delivery customers. Depending on your location and the size of the order, we may be able to arrange a special run or have product ready for pickup at our Bradenton facility at 2053 58th Ave Cir E, Bradenton, FL 34203.
